Where every child has a voice.
From the moment children enter Solomon Schecher, they are immersed in a world filled with music. Throughout their Schechter experience we strive to foster a life-long love, appreciation, and enjoyment of music in our students.
In addition to music being integrated into the grade-level curriculum and daily Tefillah, all Pre-K through 5th grade students have a designated music period each week. Our music program integrates our Hebrew and general studies programs and often emphasizes the holidays and Israel. Whenever possible, music is also integrated with the curriculum in each grade (especially in fourth grade when students learn songs from the different regions of the United States!)
Schechter’s music program also exposes students to other aspects of music. They have the opportunity to listen and learn about varies musical genre, and study technical basics, rhythm instruments, rhythmic movement, structure of the orchestra, and more. Our students have a chance to shine collectively when they perform at special grade-level and all-school assemblies.
Many of our graduates consider their participation in Schechter’s fourth and fifth grade choir to be a highlight of their Schechter experience. Students in our choir rehearse during recess where they accomplish an astonishing amount. They perform during school functions and at community-wide events, celebrations, and commemorations.
