Middle School Musical

There's no business like show business...and there's no musical like a Sager Middle School musical! For close to two decades, Schechter's talented middle school students sing and dance their way into the hearts of our Schechter community.

The musical is open to all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in the Sager Middle School who can participate in the cast, band, or crew. The full-scale musical production, which includes production numbers in both English and Hebrew, is performed at a state-of-the-art theater at a local high school. Many Schechter parents, alumni, and parents of alumni volunteer their time and energy in a variety of capacities. All together, volunteers donate hundreds of hours to make the show a success.

Solomon Schechter has one of the only middle schools in the country where students in the cast are supported by a stage band consisting entirely of middle school students who perform every number, according to Dr. Andy Rosenson, volunteer writer/producer/director along with musical director Marsha Rosenson (Schechter band director), and accompanist Danny Kahn, a parent of two Schechter alumni. There are also many student crews that are responsible for lighting, creating and moving the scenery, and creating video for a montage that is presented before the second act. Every year, students also participate in additional learning opportunities for the cast and crew.

"The experience of this full-scale musical theater production enriches our students' education in the arts by providing them with a forum to publicly demonstrate their skills and acheivements in front of peers, teachers, family, and friends," adds Dr. Rosenson. "We strive to provide students with an experience designed to foster teamwork and responsibility, to increase self-esteem, and to create a tremendous sense of accomplishment."

Only At Schechter
Unlike other schools, only at Schechter do general studies and Judaic Studies come together as one. Some people say it's like two worlds where there is no contact between the two worlds. I'm telling you -- there is a connection! We are part of the American culture, but at the same time, we keep our Jewish identity. We have learned from two worlds which appear to us as one. It was all a part of our daily schedule. We learned to be good citizens and also proud Jews. This only happens at Schechter....
